# I. Introduction
## §A. Preamble
1. This document was developed by Jim Shepich III and Codi Brission (henceforth referred to as "the parents" or "the homeowners") to delineate a set of guidelines for fostering interactions between the residents and houseguests based on mutual respect.
2. We love to host, but we request that guests adhere to the rules enumerated in this document to protect the health, wellness, peace of mind, and way of life of our children and us.
3. We will handle noncompliance with a foundation of patience, but offences may result in measures being taken to prevent recidivism.
## §B. Rules of Thumb
The following guidelines capture the essence of the philosophy that underpins many of the rules we enumerate later in this document.
1. Every rule is subject to exceptions, but only if they are granted unanimously by both Codi and Jim.
2. Abide by the Four Agreements:
- (a) **Be impeccable with your word**: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.
- (b) **Do not take anything personally**: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you wont be the victim of needless suffering.
- (c) **Do not make assumptions**: Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings and drama.
- (d) **Always do your best**: Your best is going to change from moment to moment. It will be different when you're healthy versus sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.
3. Treat all residents and other houseguests with kindness, compassion, and respect. If you have a problem with someone in our community, leave it at the doorstep.
4. Do not undermine parenting decisions made by Codi and Jim.
5. Set good examples for the children.
6. Do not challenge these guidelines. We have taken great caution to err on the side of permissivity; this document sets forth a minimal set of guidelines for preserving the harmony of our household.
## §C. Revision of this Document
1. Revisions of this document will use the following semantic version methodology:
- (a) Revisions that add or remove rules, change how existing rules are enforced or interpreted, or modify the organizational schema constitute a **major** update.
- (b) Revisions moving rules, fixing typographical or grammatical errors, or rephrasing existing rules without modifying their intent or enforcement conditions/methodology constitute a **minor** update.
- (c) The semantic version number of this document will be represented as `Major.Minor`
2. Minor revisions may be made by any homeowner. Major revisions must be made unanimously by all homeowners.
3. Guests will need to renew their agreement to the house rules whenever there is a major update.
